Sovereign Centros from CBRE has announced that leading streetwear retailer, Footasylum, is upsizing at top five super regional mall, Metrocentre. The brand’s recommitment to the destination is further demonstration of significant tenant investment in the scheme.

Footasylum is set to increase its presence by 25%, taking a 12,375 sq ft unit enabling it to stock a larger range of streetwear, sportswear, and footwear for men, women, and kids. This relocation and notable upsizing of the store means they will continue to form an important retail element of Metrocentre’s Lower Red Mall, alongside other national favourite fashion brands such as Flannels, Zara, and River Island.

The upsize of Footasylum comes at an exciting time, with other major brands choosing to further invest in the location. This includes international eyewear retailer Sunglass Hut, which has signed to open a 2,457 sq ft unit at the destination on Lower Red Mall, after initially operating from a kiosk. Menswear brand Jack & Jones has also recently relocated into a 1,733 sq ft store on Lower Red Mall, demonstrating further commitment to the destination.

Ben Cox, Director at Sovereign Centros from CBRE, commented: “Last year 17 of our tenants upsized or invested in existing stores, and this year we already have EE, Primark, Clarks, and now Footasylum and Jack & Jones on that list. Recent leasing activity shines a light on how Metrocentre continues to be a location that is highly sought after, with major brands choosing to invest here. Footasylum is the latest in a long line of household name brands to commit to a new flagship store at Metrocentre, joining some exciting new entrants to Red Mall.”

A spokesperson from Footasylum, added: “We are delighted that there is a demand for us at Metrocentre and that we can grow our footprint with a new unit at one of the top shopping centres in the country. We look forward to bringing a great selection of streetwear to the destination and have no doubt we will continue to find success at the centre.”

This news follows the recent announcement that leading outdoor clothing and equipment retailer, GO Outdoors, has opened its first store in the region within a shopping centre environment. Presenting as a GO Outdoors Express, the store stocks a variety of brands such as Rab, OEX, and Berghaus, as well as the likes of Peter Storm, HiGear, and North Ridge.
